 neil curtis performance replace
clothes with paint is an attempt to bring two symbolic individuals into
his own "art-world" by slowly removing their clothes from their body and
replacing the bare skin with paint. he turns a "white businessman" and a
"black soldier" into living sculptures that leave the social world (in which we
live) behind, and transfers them into two artificial inhabitants of his own "painted
world". In this world they are on an equal level, also the bodies have exchanged
their skin color. the symbolic hug at the end is a metaphor for healing a break from greed

at
the end of the performance the audience was able to examine and touch the nude and painted
bodies. also a 3 weeks exhibition of neil curtis work started. after the models left, the
abandoned seats and the painted sheets where left at the center of the exhibition hall and
remindet of the performance.
